The Evanston, Illinois, council voted to ban the sale of all flavored cigarettes starting in the spring of 2024, while also raising utility rates and delaying a final decision on the city’s budget, according to a recent report by Dailynorthwestern.
The council voted 6-3 in favor of the ban on flavored tobacco products, which will take effect on April 1 and prohibit the sale of all flavored tobacco products, despite calls by some council members for some products to be exempted from the ban.
Councillor Melissa Wynne told the Daily News: “If we just banned e-cigarettes, the tobacco companies would already be working on new products.” The way to do it really comprehensively is to ban all flavors.”
