Huawei Mall discreetly unveiled two new smartphones this morning, specifically, the Huawei Mate X5 folding screen and Mate60 Pro+. Let’s dive into the details of the Mate X5 first.
This device retains its horizontal inner folding screen design. The outer screen measures 6.4 inches with a resolution of 2504×1080, and an aspect ratio of 20.9:9, and is constructed using OLED technology. It supports an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 120Hz using LTPO technology, boasts a high-frequency PWM dimming of 1440Hz, and offers an impressive touch sampling rate of up to 300Hz.
Moving on to the internal screen, it spans 7.85 inches with a resolution of 2496×2224, maintaining the same 20.9:9 aspect ratio. This screen is built with foldable flexible OLED technology and, like its external counterpart, supports a 1-120Hz LTPO adaptive refresh rate, features a high-frequency PWM dimming at 1440Hz, and offers a maximum touch sampling rate of 240Hz. Both screens dazzle with a stunning 1.07 billion color spectrum and P3 wide color gamut. Additionally, the screen is fully laminated and boasts the strength of Kunlun glass by Huawei.
In terms of camera capabilities, the Mate X5 has an optical anti-shake feature, with a single camera lens on both the internal and external screens, each packing an 8-megapixel camera with an F2.4 aperture. These cameras support OIS/AIS anti-shake, 2D face recognition, and even face recognition when the user is wearing a mask.
The device comes pre-installed with the HarmonyOS 4.0.0 operating system and is powered by a robust 5060mAh battery (typical capacity). Charging is a breeze with its 88W wired fast charging and 50W Huawei wireless super fast charging, complemented by support for 7.5W wireless reverse charging. Connectivity is facilitated via a USB Type-C interface that supports USB 3.1 GEN1 and DP1.2, all wrapped in an IPX8 water-resistant package.
Color options include Feather Black, Feather White, and Feather Gold with Feather Glass; Qingshan Dai and Phantom Purple with plain leather.
In terms of dimensions, the folded state measures 156.9mm (length) * 72.4mm (width) * 11.08mm (thickness), while in the unfolded state, it expands to 156.9mm (length) * 141.5mm (width) * 5.3mm (thickness). The weight of the plain leather version is approximately 243 grams (including the battery), and the Feather sand version weighs about 245 grams (including the battery).
There are four versions of the Huawei Mate X5 available, offering different storage configurations: 12+512GB, 16+512GB, 16+512GB Collector’s Edition, and 16+1TB Collector’s Edition. Currently, the device is in the pre-sale phase, with the pricing yet to be announced.
