The new regulations require that all e-cigarette devices sold in New Zealand be equipped with removable batteries; E-cigarettes are to be kept out of reach of children and young people as much as possible, and new professional e-cigarette shops will be banned anywhere within 300 metres of school grounds.
In addition, the new regulations have special requirements for the flavor names of electronic cigarettes, electronic cigarettes to implement a child safety mechanism, such as marshmallow, strawberry jelly, doughnut and other flavor names will be banned, only use generic names that accurately describe the flavor, such as orange or berry flavor.
The new rules lower the maximum concentration of nicotine allowed in e-cigarettes. The maximum concentration of nicotine allowed in single-use e-cigarettes is reduced to 20mg/mL. The maximum concentration of nicotine in reusable e-cigarettes is set at 28.5mg/mL.
