As per a report from the “Wall Street Journal,” numerous families using Apple products have encountered a malfunction in Apple’s “screen time” control feature. This glitch prevents children from accessing adequate limited time and content on their phones. Acknowledging the problem, Apple has committed to providing an update to rectify the issue.
In 2018, Apple introduced the Apple Screen Control time feature, including the “Downtime” setting. This feature aimed to empower parents to regulate and manage the applications on their children’s iPhones, iPads, and iPods from their own devices.
Recently, parents have noticed that the settings they applied are not working as expected. Consequently, their children can freely use apps without restrictions and even access adult content.
An Apple representative informed The Wall Street Journal that they are aware of the issue where Screen Time settings were unexpectedly reset. They take these reports very seriously and continuously work on updates to improve the situation.
To address the problem, Apple released the iOS 16.5 update in May, which was expected to resolve issues related to Screen Time settings being reset or not syncing across devices. However, the bug persists even in the new public beta of iOS 17.
The exact onset of the issue remains unclear, but complaints regarding parental control problems on Apple’s discussion page date back to as early as 2020 and continue to be reported to this day.
