According to an official Samsung press release, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2023 event will be held at the COEX in Samsung-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea, “at the end of July,” and is expected to “launch the next generation of foldable devices,” including the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.
Samsung said it “aims to further drive the widespread adoption of foldable phones and solidify its position as a category creator.”
The new location represents a significant shift from recent years, as Samsung has typically chosen countries like the U.S., U.K., and Spain for its launch events. Samsung notes that according to Counterpoint Research, South Korea “leads with 13.6 percent foldable screen phone adoption” by 2022.
Tim Roh, president and head of the Samsung Mobile eXperience (MX) business, said: “Holding Unpacked in Seoul is significant as it is an emerging innovation and cultural hub, as well as a hub for foldable screen products.”
IGeekphone Note: The event will also be a little earlier than in previous years, with Galaxy Unpacked usually taking place in August. Previously sources pointed out that Samsung is considering the idea of holding Galaxy Unpacked in July, possibly to boost sales this quarter. Samsung has been grappling with a sharp drop in profits recently due to weak demand for semiconductors, although handset sales have remained fairly positive.
In terms of foldable screen devices, there are rumors that Samsung will use a new drop hinge to make the body thinner; The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will get a larger secondary screen, and both phones will have dust protection, among other things.
Samsung is also expected to release the Galaxy Tab S9 series tablet, new wireless headphones, and Galaxy Watch 6 series watches.
