According to reports from foreign technology media Insider Gaming, the upcoming game console from Sony, known as Project Q, is facing concerns about its battery life. It has been revealed that Project Q only has a battery life of 3-4 hours, which raises doubts about its ability to compete with other game consoles such as the Steam Deck.
Sony’s Project Q aligns with previous leaks and information. It boasts a large 8-inch screen that supports 1080p 60fps streaming, along with all the buttons and functions of the DualSense wireless controller. This allows users to stream PlayStation 5 (PS5) games directly to the handheld device via Wi-Fi, assuming they already own a PS5 console.
Comparatively, let’s take a look at the battery life of other game consoles currently in the market.
The Steam Deck, developed by Valve, has a battery life that reportedly ranges between two and eight hours. However, the actual battery life can vary depending on the game being played. In a test conducted by foreign media, the game “Super Meat Boy” managed to persist for an impressive 9 hours and 17 minutes when the device was set to flight mode and the screen brightness was at its lowest. On the other hand, the shortest battery life recorded during the test was a mere 1 hour and 17 minutes, achieved while playing “Horizon: Dawn Dawn” at full screen brightness.
Moving on to the ASUS ROG Ally, it offers a battery life of around 4 hours. In contrast, the Steam Deck outperforms it with a battery life of 7 hours. In specific tests, the Ally managed to score 5 hours and 51 minutes during a web browsing test conducted by Tom’s Hardware, while it only lasted 1 hour and 43 minutes in the PCMark 10 test.
Lastly, the Logitech G Cloud impresses with its extended battery life, capable of supporting up to 12 hours of usage when fully charged.
In conclusion, Sony Project Q is facing concerns regarding its battery life, as it falls short compared to other game consoles like the Steam Deck. While the exact battery life of the Steam Deck can vary depending on the game being played, it offers a wider range of usage time compared to Project Q. Similarly, the ASUS ROG Ally provides a battery life of 4 hours, while Logitech’s G Cloud takes the lead with an impressive 12-hour battery life. These factors highlight the importance of battery performance for portable gaming consoles, as it significantly impacts the overall user experience. Ultimately, consumers may need to consider their preferences and usage patterns when making a decision about which console best suits their needs.
