With its upcoming folding screen phones, Samsung is back in the news – the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. The US version of these phones has recently appeared on the popular benchmark website Geekbench, revealing some exciting features.
According to the listing, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and Z Flip5 will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chip. This chipset is the same as the one used in the recently launched Galaxy S23 series but with slightly overclocked CPU and GPU cores, resulting in higher performance. The Kryo CPU core of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip has been overclocked to 3.36GHz, compared to the standard 3.2GHz, and the Adreno GPU frequency has been increased from 680MHz to 719MHz. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 (SM-F946U) recorded an impressive score of 2030 in the single-core test and 5213 in the multi-core test on Geekbench 6. This variant of the phone comes with 12GB of RAM and runs on the latest Android 13 operating system.
The Galaxy Z Fold 5 is expected to feature a 6.2-inch external display with a 120Hz Super AMOLED display, a rear camera with a triple-lens setup including 50MP+12MP+10MP sensors, a built-in Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, and a 4400mAh battery. It may not have an S Pen slot built-in, but it will support the S Pen Fold Edition, which is a great addition for fans of the stylus.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 (SM-F731U) shares the same chipset as its larger counterpart and also recorded a Geekbench 6 score of 2030 in the single-core test and 5213 in the multi-core test. The Z Flip5 features a clamshell folding screen and 8GB of RAM and also runs on Android 13 out of the box.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to come with a 3.4-inch secondary screen with a unique aspect ratio of 1:1.038, making it easier to interact with notifications, quick settings, and widgets without opening the phone. Additionally, this screen can double as a better camera viewfinder, an excellent feature for selfie lovers.
Samsung’s next-generation folding screen phones are set to be released in August and will feature new touch screen technology, water drop hinges, and IPX8 waterproof certification, making them more durable and resistant to water damage.
In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip5 are highly anticipated devices set to raise the bar for folding-screen phones. With powerful hardware and innovative features, they will appeal to a wide range of users. We can’t wait to see what Samsung has in store for us in August!
