On February 24th, Yuxi City’s first industrial technology research institute – heating tobacco core and auxiliary materials industrial Technology Research Institute was established. The establishment of the research institute will accelerate the layout of the new tobacco industry in Yuxi, build a special remanufactured tobacco production base for heated cigarettes and a pilot area for new tobacco, and provide strong scientific and technological innovation support for the whole industry chain to build 100 billion cigarettes and supporting industries.
2. The UK is considering a new tax on vaping products
Ministers are considering a new tax on vaping products in an attempt to tackle the rise in teenagers using single-use electronic cigarettes. Other proposals under consideration include further regulation of packaging, marketing and taste, among others. Still, the proposal would not consider a total ban on single-use e-cigarettes.
3. Altria is buying NJOY, the third-largest e-cigarette brand in the US, for $2.75 billion
Altria Group Inc. is in advanced talks to buy e-cigarette maker NJOY Holdings Inc for at least $2.75 billion, foreign media reported today. NJOY is one of the few e-cigarette makers whose products have been approved by federal regulators in the US.
4. Fillo launches single-use e-cigarettes in the UK
VEEBA, a disposable electronic cigarette containing 1.8% nicotine, has been launched by the UK and Ireland subsidiaries of Fillo International, foreign media reported today. The product was not commercialized with packaging and flavor descriptions that might appeal to minors.
5. Thai Customs Department destroys illegal e-cigarettes worth 72 million baht
On February 24, the General Administration of Customs of Thailand used a roller to destroy 874,535 pieces of illegal e-cigarette products, including e-cigarette hosts, vaping liquid, mouthpieces and other related equipment, with a total value of more than 72 million baht (tax included).
