Earlier this year, TCL unveiled three phones at CES for the European and Asian markets, namely the TCL 40 SE, 408 and 403.
All three are 4G-only models with a focus on low cost and entry level markets. Now, TCL is offering more Series 40 phones on the MWC 2023, some with 5G capabilities, and all of them are priced under $200.
TCL 40X 5G
The TCL 40 X 5G costs $200. Currently around RMB1,392) is powered by a Mediatek Breguet 700 chip, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM. It features a 6.56-inch display with HD+ resolution (20:9) and a 90Hz refresh rate.
It also has a 50MP main camera and two 2MP auxiliary lenses on the back, an 8MP front-facing camera for facial unlocking, a side-fingerprint solution, a 5,000mAh battery and 5G support.
TCL’s 40XE 5G is similar to the 40X 5G, but it has dropped the price to $170 (currently about 1,183 yuan), which is also TCL’s cheapest 5G phone to date. However, it has the same Guet 700 as the X, and has the same 4/64GB configuration, 6.56-inch HD+ 90Hz display, and fingerprint recognition on the side.
It has a 13MP rear camera, a pair of 2MP auxiliary lenses and an 8MP front sensor. Compared with the previous generation model, it has been upgraded to 5000mAh battery.
Powered by a 12nm Helio G37 chip that doesn’t support 5G, the TCL 40 XL features a 6.75-inch HD + screen with a 50+2+2MP triple camera on the rear and an 8MP camera on the front.
The TCL 40 XL’s storage capacity is increased to 128GB (expand up to 512GB using a microSD card), but RAM remains 4GB.
It has the same 5,000mAh battery capacity as the X/XE, the same side-fingerprint solution, and costs $150 overseas, $20 less than the 40 XE and 40 SE.
TCL 406
The TCL 406 costs $120, $10 less than the 408.
It has a 6.6-inch HD+ display, stereo speakers and a 5,000mAh battery. It also has a 13MP camera, runs full Android, and even comes pre-installed with the latest version 13.
