Volla Phone X23 is a rugged phone with a 6.1-inch HD + display, a Mediatek Helio G99 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, the phone has passed the MIL-STD-810H and IP68 water and dust rating tests.
Volla Phone X23 supports a replaceable battery and has a 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot. Like all phones released by Volla since 2019, the Volla Phone X23 comes with a choice of Linux-based Ubuntu Touch or Android-based Volla operating system.
Ubuntu Touch is a touch-friendly Linux distribution originally developed by Canonical, the company that makes the popular Ubuntu operating system. Canonical eventually abandoned the Ubuntu Touch project, which has since been picked up by independent developers as UBPorts.
Volla OS, meanwhile, is an offshoot of Google’s Android open-source project code that uses custom features, including the Springboard launcher, support for light, dark and transparent themes, and replacing some of Google’s standard apps with secure, private alternatives for messaging, web browsing or GPS navigation. IT House has learned that Volla OS does not support Google mobile services, the Google Play store or other Google apps such as Gmail, Chrome or Google Maps.
Some features of a phone may vary depending on the operating system. For example, Ubuntu Touch supports “fusion,” allowing users to connect their phones to an external display to run desktop Linux applications, but Volla OS does not have any form of desktop mode. Meanwhile, Volla states that data encryption exists only in Volla OS. If users want to boot multiple Settings and switch operating systems on the same phone, Volla recommends buying a model with Volla OS and manually installing Ubuntu Touch (or another operating system).
In terms of specs, the Volla Phone X23 features a 6.1-inch 1560 x 720-pixel IPS LCD drip display with 500 Nits of brightness, covered in Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and a 16-megapixel selfie lens on the front. The rear 48-megapixel main camera and 8-megapixel ultra-wide Angle camera. It supports a side fingerprint/power button, and a dedicated button that allows you to dictate notes using offline voice-to-text.
Volla Phone X23 supports microSD expansion up to 1TB of storage, 1 3.5mm headphone jack, 1 USB Type-C port, 5000mAh detachable battery, supports 30W wired or 15W wireless charging, and supports 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC.
