The USBC interface of this year’s iPhone 15 series is almost set in stone. The biggest advantage of this interface used to be universal and compatible, which is much better than Apple’s exclusive Lightning. However, the fact is not so simple as you imagine, Apple will not open it to everyone for free, and USBC needs to be encrypted.
As we’ve previously reported, industry sources have revealed that Apple has made its own USBC chip, the Lightnig interface IC, which will be used in this year’s iPhone and MFI-certified peripheral Settings.
This means that Apple has to encrypt its own USBC interface. If you want to use the USBC cable on the iPhone, you need MFI certification. Without certification, you can’t enjoy all the functions, and most likely you can only provide the lowest level of charging, such as the ancestral 5V1A 5 Fu 1 an.
The news of Apple’s encryption of USBC was also confirmed by a Feiao executive, who said that after user feedback and their testing, the latest iOS does indeed encrypt the device’s USBC interface. The OTG cable that users bought before the Type-C to Type-C interface will not work on the latest MAC and iPAD.
He also advises people not to update the latest system, especially those who like to listen to music on their iOS devices through the USBC.

However, players who know Apple well know that it is very normal for Apple to do so. Not to mention the ecological closure, in terms of revenue alone, MFI certification can contribute more than 5 billion US dollars a year. The money spent on accessories is higher than the revenue and profit of many mobile phone manufacturers, so Apple is unlikely to give up.
