According to 9to5Mac, Apple wants users to buy the more expensive premium version of the iPhone 15, so the top version of the iPhone 15 series will get a major upgrade.
The iPhone 15 Ultra, to be released later this year, will feature a 12-megapixel hidden telephoto lens, making it Apple’s first iPhone with a periscope head.
According to leaks, with the periscope head, the iPhone 15 Ultra will offer 6x optical zoom. For comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro supports 3x optical zoom.
Submersible telephoto lenses are known to rely on a prism that reflects light at a 90-degree Angle onto the built-in lens. This allows the lens to be much longer in length than a telephoto lens, resulting in better optical zoom.
A number of current Android flagships have hidden telephoto lenses, such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, which offers 10x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom thanks to the hidden telephoto lens.
In addition to the hidden telephoto, the iPhone 15 Ultra will feature a 3nm bionic A17 chip, 8GB of RAM, and a new USB-C port.
