TCL showed off a slew of new products at CES 2023, including new phones, Windows portable laptops and more. Also worth noting is the TCL Nxtpaper 12 Pro, a new tablet with a color e-ink ink screen, which is relatively affordable and has excellent color display.
Unlike regular LCD panels, which change the temperature of the screen and give it a pale yellow color, TCL’s Nxtpaper technology relies on a built-in multi-layer filter system. This not only reduces blue light exposure, but also keeps the color profile as close to nature as possible and reduces glare.
TCL offers a dedicated reading mode for its Nxtpaper line of tablets that converts screen output to grayscale for an e-ink experience. As for the paper part of the marketing materials, TCL says it ‘feels like touching real paper,’ adding that the actual display surface has a paper-like touch.
As for its system, the tablet features Nxtpaper display technology that doubles brightness output for a more comfortable outdoor viewing experience. However, the company guarantees that despite the improved brightness figures, the screen will still be able to reduce blue light output by up to 61 per cent.
The Nxtpaper 12 Pro tablet offers a fairly sharp 12.2-inch 2K (2,160 x 1,440 pixels) display with a peak brightness of 370 nits and an aspect ratio of 3:2, a bit like the iPad Pro. Naturally being an e-ink ink screen, you can’t expect the screen to have a very high refresh rate.
iGeekphone understands that the tablet is powered by Mediatek MT8771 chipset, the same as the TCL 10S 5G tablet. It will be available in a single configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. Thankfully, you can insert an SDHC or SDXC card for additional storage.

The 8,000mAh battery claims to last up to 13 hours. The TCL Nxtpaper 12 Pro supports 18W fast charging, and thankfully, the power brick comes bundled with the retail packaging. Notably, TCL comes bundled with the standard electronic pen handwritten pen that can be identified in the retail package with more than 8,192 pressure levels, just like Samsung.
