Design
Small and compact like a deck of playing cards and weighing only 100 grams, the FiiO Q1 Mark II has improved in design compared to the Mark I. The volume knob has been moved to the left, while on the right we find the headphone outputs from 3.5mm and 2.5mm (TRRS balanced) and one line in/out port. When used as a Line-In, the Q1 Mark II functions as an amplifier to be combined with an external player.
When this multifunction connector is used as a Line-Out instead, the Q1 Mark II functions as a USB DAC to be connected to an external amplifier. With dimensions of 99 x 59 x 12.5mm and a weight of 101.5 grams, the Mark II has a compact body that looks like an antique Gin bottle from afar. Designed in a single black version with control keys and audio ports arranged scientifically on the top and bottom edges of the machine, creating a modern and luxurious DAC/AMP product line.
Sound Quality
The FiiO Q1 Mark II is that the overall music is in harmony with the background sound quite static, not tangled in the climax, many details. The reason the sound of the Q1 Gen 2 is so good is due to the use of Texas Instrument’s new DAC chip PCM5102 with only 112dB. Bass is thick, mid is sweet, very suitable for listening to smooth lyrical music. When using the bassboot function, the bass will be deeper and more compact but still not encroaching on the other two bands. The treble of Q1 Gen 2 is bright, clear, not harsh and rich in details.
The Mark II proved convincing. Plus, the latter was able to drive our 300-ohm ears much louder. We got a lively, dynamic, full-bodied, yet well-articulated sound. At times, the depiction of complex details seemed a bit artificial, but in return for the affordable price, we didn’t even expect so-called anti-digital sound.
Connectivity
FiiO Q1 Mark II is fully compatible with both iOS and Android operating systems. In addition, Q1 Gen 2 is designed with 2 headphone output ports, including 1 regular 3.5mm port and a 2.5mm balanced port, completely different from other portable DACs/Amps. Like FiiO Q1, Q1 Gen 2 also has 2 input ports, 1 3.5 aux line in port for the amplifier and 1 micro USB port to receive digital signals with the ability to automatically recognize signals from computer sources. or phone, music player.
Battery
FiiO Q1 Mark II has an upgraded battery to 1,800 mAh (1,400 mAh in the old version) for about 10 ~ 20 hours of use. This nominal level is quite low and like FiiO is deducting the product when upgrading from the PCM5102 DAC chip to AK4452 , plus the balanced output also eats more power. Playing music at a high sample rate and bit depth will shorten the duration even further. Charging time is also up to 4 hours, so nothing is too outstanding.
