The JBL Pulse 4 wireless speakers will help you throw a bright party in a large room or outdoors. Its new improved 20W speaker produces loud sound with clear highs and signature bass (thanks to the passive bass port). A REAL HIT The speaker can be seen from afar. the surface is an LED display that can shimmer with bright colors or flicker to the beat of the music. You can even give it the color of the environment: to do this, you need to launch a mobile application and point the smartphone camera at the desired point.
Design
The first thing you notice once you get it in hand is that its size does not differ from the JBL Pulse 3 (dimensions 9.6 x 9.6 x 20.7 cm). On the other hand, the transparent surface which reflects the LEDs is larger. In fact, the manufacturer has integrated the control buttons on smaller plastic elements, suddenly the transparent cylinder is dedicated only to the light effects. We enjoy pretty effects thanks to the LEDs, but the transparent plastic gets dirty easily. You will need to wipe it down from time to time to erase the marks and traces.
At the pea level, they weigh 1.2 kg on the scale. Given its weight and dimensions, the Pulse 4 falls into the category of portable speakers. It can be carried in a backpack, but it will still take a little space. The speaker is IPX7 certified. This means that it is protected against the effects of temporary immersion up to 1 meter deep and for 30 minutes. The rendering is really striking when you immerse it in water and the light effects are activated.
Features
The Pulse 4 sounds different from the Pulse 3 simply because its design is different. For this new JBL model to decide to integrate only one loudspeaker on the top of the cylinder and a passive radiator on the other end. As a result, the sound reproduction will be different depending on your environment but also depending on the position of the speaker. We will note all the same in passing that the vibration of the loudspeaker and the passive radiator is always a hypnotizing spectacle. It’s quite funny to see water projected by the movement.
Connectivity
In addition to the settings in the app, each object can also be scanned with the smartphone camera and the colors of the JBL Pulse4 automatically adapt to it. Up to two smartphones or tablets can be connected at the same time so that friends can take turns selecting songs.
Battery
The manufacturer promises that the battery life of up to 12 hours should also give the Pulse 4 the necessary stamina. The included USB-C cable is used for optional power delivery or recharging. With the PartyBoost feature in the JBLConnect app, more than 100 JBL PartyBoost-enabled speakers can be wirelessly connected together.
Verdict
The JBL Pulse 4 is a very good Bluetooth speaker. The manufacturer has decided to modify the design compared to the previous generation and it is very successful. Now we benefit even more from the luminous rendering of the LEDs. On the other hand, the sound reproduction is somewhat behind when compared to the JBL Pulse 3. We take advantage of enough power to add sound to an indoor room or a small evening with friends, but we would still have liked a slightly more balanced sound. Anyway, the Pulse 4 is still a success. It can perfectly accompany you outdoors or are useful for listening to music at home.
