Recently, a Chinese blog “My Drivers” reports that at least one of the models from the Redmi K50 series will have a MediaTek Dimensity 2000 processor. The upcoming chip will replace MediaTek’s current flagship – Dimensity 1200, and the Redmi K50 will probably be one of the first devices to be powered by it.
This isn’t the first time, however, that Redmi has opted for the flagship Dimensity processor for its K Series, so it’s no surprise. Looking at the history of the line, the Redmi K30 Extreme Edition is equipped with Dimensity 1000 Plus, the Redmi K40 Gaming is equipped with Dimensity 1200, and the K50 series will now be equipped with Dimensity 2000.
As for the processor itself, Dimensity 2000 is currently the leading unit, which according to test results will be in direct competition with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 898 chip. The leak recently showed a phenomenal AnTuTu score of over a million. By comparison, its predecessor the Dimensity 1200 has about 715,000 points, and the Snapdragon 898 is also over a million.
The CPU will use the same architecture as the Snapdragon 898 and have 1x 3.0GHz X2 super large core + 3x 2.85GHz large core + 4x 1.8GHz small core. It will be paired with a Mali-G710 MC10 GPU. It is worth noting here that the Redmi K50 model equipped with Dimensity 2000 is likely to be the standard model. The Pro or Pro + variant is expected to run the Snapdragon 898, just as the K40 Pro + runs the Snapdragon 888.
It’s also worth noting that the Redmi K50 series will almost certainly be sold under a variety of different names in markets other than China. Take, for example, the Redmi K40, which is marketed worldwide as the Poco F3 and in India as the Mi 11X, so for this, we can expect it to be called the Poco F4 in the global market.
