As far as Apple is concerned, iPhone and Apple Watch have all switched to OLED panels, while 12.9 “iPad Pro and the newly released 14″ /16 “MacBook Pro are only mini LED backlights (essentially LCD panels), but it is believed that this scheme is just a transition. The ultimate goal is still OLED.
The latest news is that Apple is in discussions with Samsung and LG, the two most core panel suppliers, about switching to OLED panels for iPad Pro and MacBook, which focuses on two-layer series OLED technology.
It is understood that the existing OLED screen smart phone, OLED uses a single stack structure, double layer series in short, red (R) green (G) blue (B) luminous layer stacked into two layers, the advantage lies in the screen brightness increased by 2 times, product life increased by 4 times, the disadvantage is relatively high cost.
The iPad is also LTPO TFT, with an adaptive refresh rate range of 10-120Hz, consistent with the iPhone 13 Pro, and upgraded from the ProMotion (24Hz to 120Hz) of the iPad Pro since 2017.
Based on the above revelations, compared with iPhone 13 Pro, the dual-layer OLED used by iPad Pro is expected to achieve significantly higher display brightness and durability while maintaining LTPO 120Hz adaptive refresh rate (OLED screen burning is a chronic disease), which is a leap in core parameters.
