First, we were able to see the appearance of Surface Duo 2, and later, we learned about some of its specifications thanks to its passage through Geekbench. Today, finally, Microsoft has officially presented the Surface Duo 2, which, among other features, comes with a 90 Hz screen, improved cameras, and wireless charging for the stylus.
If we start with the design of the Surface Duo 2, we see that Microsoft has hardly made any changes. He opts again for two separate screens that are joined by a hinge instead of betting on folding panels. That hinge, when the device is closed, shows notifications, battery status, and the time.
The diagonal of both screens has grown from 5.6 to 5.8 inches and now has a refresh rate of 90 Hz; when opened, together, they are 8.3 inches in size. For its part, the pen has also received a great improvement, as the new Surface Slim Pen 2 can be charged wirelessly with the Duo 2 when it is magnetically connected.
The Surface Duo 2 has an Android 11 operating system and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 processor along with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. In terms of connectivity, it has Bluetooth 5.0, USB-C, and 5G, in addition to NFC for contactless payments. The fingerprint reader, by the way, has moved to the power button.
But without a doubt, the greatest novelty is found in the photographic section. While the first-generation offered a simple 11MP dual camera, this new Surface Duo 2 comes with a triple-camera system with a 12MP main sensor, a 12MP telephoto lens, and a 16MP ultra-wide-angle third sensor, with f / 1.7 and f / 2.4 aperture lenses, plus optical image stabilization.
Microsoft has confirmed that in addition to the silver (“Glacier”) that we already know from the Surface Duo, the new generation also comes in black (“Obsidian”). In addition, three variants are marketed depending on the internal storage: 128, 256, and 512GB, all of them with 8GB of RAM.
The new Microsoft Surface Duo 2 is now available to reserve in silver and black in specific markets starting at $1499 for the 128GB version, $1599 for the 256GB version, and $1799 for the 512GB version. At the moment, the Surface Duo 2 will arrive in the US, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Ireland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
