Qualcomm is likely preparing a Snapdragon 898 announcement later this year to take on Samsung’s Exynos 2200. Because it was mass-produced in a 4nm process, we should expect improvements in clock speeds, on which one informant has provided insight. Apparently, Qualcomm is sticking with the same tri-cluster CPU design that it has maintained for many years, so let’s see more details.
According to Ice Universe, instead of a four-cluster CPU configuration that we previously reported on, the insider claims that the Snapdragon 898 will feature the following.
A Kryo 780 core, probably based on the Cortex-X2, running at 3.09 GHz
Three Kryo 780 cores, probably based on the Cortex-A710, running at 2.4 GHz
Four Kryo 780 cores, probably based on the Cortex-A510, running at 1.8GHz
The insider mentioned earlier that the name of Qualcomm’s next-gen SoC would be Snapdragon 898, not Snapdragon 895 that rumors are raging about. He also claimed that he saw the Super Core clock speed running at 3.09GHz, indicating that a prototype with the new chipset was probably being tested. In an update to him on Weibo, those clock speeds haven’t changed.
It also provides frequencies for the less powerful Kryo 780 cores, which are no different than the Kryo 680 cores running on the Snapdragon 888. Of course, this does not mean that we will not experience any performance differences between the two chipsets, but these Unchanged clocks Speeds may have something to do with Samsung’s 4nm node, which is said to be inferior compared to TSMC’s 4nm technology.
Generational improvements in performance while maintaining the same CPU speeds are nothing out of the ordinary, so it’s possible Qualcomm settled on these frequencies for the Snapdragon 898 and kept the thermals in check.
