Apple announced the iPhone 13 series a few days ago and we’re already hearing details about next year’s iPhone. One of the biggest additions this year is the 120Hz ProMotion display on the iPhone 13 Pro models and Apple will also bring it to the iPhone 14.
Korean website The Elec reports that at least one iPhone 14 series model will still have a 60Hz display while the rest will be upgraded to a higher refresh rate panel.
This information for the absence of ProMotion (120 Hz) on one of the iPhone 14 matches previous data from Ross Young. The analyst, specializing in screens, recently had good information about the iPad mini 6 by indicating that it would have an 8.3-inch panel.
In 2022, Apple is expected to offer a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.7-inch “14 Max”, a 6.1-inch “14 Pro”, and a 6.7-inch “14 Pro Max”. The mini model should bow out. We can imagine that the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 will be the one with the LTPS screen and therefore a 60 Hz display. It is possible that the 14 Max is also affected. Apple would therefore reserve, once again, ProMotion for Pro models.
In addition, The Elec indicates that LG is seeking to become an Apple supplier for LTPO screens in 2022. It would thus join Samsung, which is to date the only one to deal with screens that support ProMotion for the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.
