Samsung’s Galaxy Book laptop will soon be powered by an ARM-based Exynos 2200 SoC chip and is expected to be released in the second half of this year. In addition, Samsung is also considering using the chip in smartphones.
Industry sources said the Exynos 2200 will be the brand’s first SOC chip with AMD rDNA architecture GPU and will be built using Samsung’s 5nm LPE process, the same as the existing Exynos 2100 process. The chip will have one extra-large Cortex-X1 core, three large Cortex-A78 cores, and four small Cortex-A55 cores. A laptop version of the product is expected to have higher frequencies or integrate more than one X1 supercore for improved performance.
According to the Korea Business Daily, an industry source said: “The new Exynos chips will have a number of performance enhancements, and the 5nm process is expected to improve the power efficiency of laptops. It’s good for laptops as well as smartphones.”
Exynos 2200 SoC chips are expected to have a much larger area than Exynos 2100, meaning higher manufacturing costs and power consumption, foreign media said. This puts pressure on the internal layout of the smartphone as well as its power supply. However, this chip is expected to achieve higher burst frequency and improve performance under high load in laptop computer due to its good heat dissipation capability.

The Samsung Exynos 2200 is expected to deliver 125% CPU performance improvement and 250% GPU performance improvement over the Exynos 2100, which is better than the Apple A14 and Qualcomm 8CX, according to a previous source, @theGalox_.
