Maybe Samsung paved the way for something very good in the smartphone market. First announced that it will increase the time of providing software updates on its phones and in fact not necessarily only in flagships. Then we learned that Oppo will offer three or maybe four years of support for the Find X3 Series. Now, Vivo enters the game with the Vivo X Series.
In a statement, Vivo SVP and CTO Yujian Shi said that the X series flagships have state-of-the-art hardware and are designed to withstand time, so his company will do its best to provide the necessary support to its customers at the software level.
Vivo intends to distribute Android operating system and security updates within three years of the launch of the new X-Series smartphones. This policy will affect devices released after July 2021. The policy applies to smartphones for the European, Australian, and Indian markets. Other devices will receive updates in accordance with the standard cycle.
Vivo notes that upcoming X-Series smartphones will receive the most advanced electronic components, and therefore can remain relevant for several years. In this light, a three-year software update will help ensure the security of user data, as well as allow the implementation of new functions.
As a company, Vivo always moves with the user in mind. The extension of the software update will allow the users of the premium phones of the Vivo X Series to enjoy for a longer period of time the possibilities offered by the latest features provided by the company’s software.
According to IDC estimates, 345.5 million smartphones were shipped worldwide in the first quarter of this year, up 25.5% from last year. Vivo is ranked fifth in the list of leading manufacturers with a share of 10.1%.
