Recently we heard that Huawei has two processors up its sleeve, including the HiSilicon Kirin 820E. However, we did not know what to expect from him. Now everything has become clear as Huawei has launched the first smartphone with Huawei Kirin 820E 5G – the Nova 7 SE 5G Lohas Edition model.
Huawei has extensive experience in the production of processors, but the United States has paralyzed it in this area due to its sanctions. The company, to our surprise, is still doing somehow and it is so well that it managed to create another chip – the HiSilicon Kirin 820E.
Before we take a look at the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G LOHAS Edition, let us successfully discuss the Kirin 820E. This processor has a completely different core configuration than the original, because it is made of three ARM Cortex-A76 cores with a maximum clock frequency of 2.22 GHz and three ARM Cortex-A55 1.84 GHz. It differs from the Kirin 820 in the lack of a high-performance ARM Cortex-A76 2.36 GHz core and also has one ARM Cortex-A55 coreless.
However, it is still based on a 7-nm technological process and has six-core ARM Mali-G57 graphics and Kirin ISP 5.0. Huawei does not mention anything about the single-core NPU chip that the Kirin 820 has. Either it is a mere oversight that it was not mentioned in the specification, or it is just another thing that has been “cut”.
This is the first smartphone with the HiSilicon Kirin 820E six-core processor and the next, third version of the same model. The first one is equipped with the Kirin 820 chip and the second one with MediaTek Dimensity 800U.
The only differences between the various versions of the Huawei Nova 7 SE 5G are the processors, although in all cases a very important thing has been kept, i.e. the 5G modem. We were afraid that the Huawei Kirin 820E 5G SoC With 7nm Process Officially Unveiled system might lack it because the United States wants to cut off the company from everything related to this technology (and not only).
Fortunately, it did not happen, and most customers probably will not even notice that the processor has changed – they can only pay attention to the name because the version with MediaTek Dimensity 800U has the word “Vitality Edition” (no longer available for sale), and the one with the Huawei Kirin 820E 5G – “Lohas Edition” chip. The price has not changed either – it is 2299 yuan. So since we already know what the HiSilicon Kirin 820E offers, now we are waiting for the first smartphone with the HiSilicon Kirin 985E processor.
