Recently, Motorola confirmed that the Moto Edge S will launch in China on January 26. Although previous leaks indicated that it would use the Snapdragon 865, it will actually use the new Snapdragon 870 (an improved version of the SD865). Before the official presentation, the company has revealed the score obtained by the Motorola Edge S in Antutu, demonstrating the power of the new SD870.
Chen Jin, the CEO of Lenovo China, shared the Antutu result of the Motorola Edge S through his Weibo account. In the screenshot of the post, we can see that the overall score almost goes up to 680K. Unsurprisingly, this score still lags behind what has been seen on the Snapdragon 888 (using the future Black Shark 4 as a reference). Still, the new Snapdragon 870 will be able to deliver impressive performance.
The result of 679,860 points for the Edge S equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 870 is broken down into 189,694 points for the CPU section, 290,268 points for the GPU performance, 103,322 points for the memory speed section, and 96,576 points in the category of fluidity interface (UX). Of course, Antutu’s scores can differ based on scenarios, and as Jin says, the Edge S might be capable of even more as well.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 was announced a couple of days ago. The hardware is identified by the code name SM8250-AC. The biggest notable novelty is that the higher-performing super core runs at a very high clock speed of 3.2 GHz. Consequently, the Antutu score obtained by the Motorola Edge S surpasses devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and the iQOO 5 Pro.
At the moment, we can only wait until the day it is available to learn more about performance in real-world scenarios and software optimization (UX) on the Edge S. According to reports that have emerged in recent weeks, the brand’s next affordable flagship phone is known internally under the code name “Motorola Nio.”
Other Leaked Specs
It is expected that the Motorola Edge S will have a 6.7-inch screen with Full HD + resolution and a high refresh rate that would reach 105 Hz. On the panel, there will be a double perforation for two front camera sensors ( 16MP + 8MP ). Other expected specs include a 64MP quad-camera system, 5000mAh battery, 8 or 12GB of RAM, 128 or 256GB storage, and Android 11 as standard.
