As expected, Apple today officially unveiled its 6th generation of smartwatches, the Apple Watch Series 6, but also announced a new, more affordable, and modest smartwatch, the Apple Watch SE. So how much does Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE cost, what are the features? Below are the details …
A feature that proved to be of high importance when the new coronavirus pandemic began, monitoring the blood oxygen level can be done in just 15 seconds on the new Apple Watch Series 6. The watch uses green, red, and infrared lights to measure the color of the blood and, thus, determine the oxygen level in an approximate way, compensating for the different variations of skin tone between each human being.
As support, Watch 6 uses an algorithm in the Oxygen in Blood app to calculate the level between 70% and 100% and allows periodic measurements, made when the device detects that the user is stopped, or manuals, which need the user to stay still for greater accuracy.
The level of oxygen in the blood, or SpO2, is the percentage of the most important gas for human life that the bloodstream carries from the lung to the rest of the body, keeping cells alive. If this level becomes too low, it may be a sign of a health problem. The rate considered normal is between 95% and 100%.
Apple notes that monitoring is done to help exercise and to help prevent disease, in addition to three more possibilities being studied, including heart health and the implications of COVID-19.
The Watch Series 6 comes with a dual-core processor based on the A13 Bionic, meaning it is more powerful than its predecessor. In addition, it measures elevation in real-time and brings new watch faces, including the possibility of options created by artists and even someone with their personalized Memoji. The Retina Semper Ativa screen is 30% larger than the Series 3 and is water-resistant up to 50m deep.
New bracelet options were also presented, including one entirely made of silicone, without adjustment. There are several sizes and seven colors available for purchase.
Complementing the series of features that reach the Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Series 6 even shows more than one-time zone to choose from on the display and the Family Setup feature, which allows you to pair the Apple Watch with children or the elderly who do not have one iPhone own to a parent’s device. This allows you to locate the watch, send messages, and use virtually all of the device’s features without the need for an additional smartphone.
Apple Watch SE
According to Apple, the most affordable version of its watch has “the same design and screen size as the Apple Watch Series 6”. The difference is on the inside, with the dual-core S5 SiP chip, which is the hardware of the previous generation, in other words. The device offers drop detection and emergency SOS, an option with a cellular network to work regardless of whether the iPhone is close to you and is waterproof.
Watch SE monitors your activities with circles showing your movements, exercises, and standing time and includes workouts like running, walking, yoga, cycling and even dancing, as well as connecting to compatible gym equipment. It also monitors sleep and practically all the functions present in Series 6, except for the level of oxygen in the blood and measurement of the heartbeat.
Price and Availability
Both Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE start to be sold in the United States from this Friday (18). There, the Series 6 starts at $399, in the GPS version, while the Watch SE costs $279, also in the simplest model, with GPS.
