Android smartphones do have a lot going for them in 2020, contrary to what Apple fans might believe, but every once in a while, a flagship from an Android OEM comes into the market that challenges even the mighty iPhone in all its glory. Today, we are going to narrow down on three Android smartphones that were released in 2020 and could very well give some of the iPhones a good run for their money.
TCL 10L
The TCL 10L Portugal happens to be our number one pick because it’s simply ahead of the competition in more ways than one. For example, the 10L uses TCL’s own propriety NXTVISION technology to display more accurate colours than the competition on its 6.53” FHD+ display.
The quad camera setup on its back is no slouch either, with a 48-mp sensor leading the pack. Perhaps most interestingly, the TCL 10L can display HDR videos from any and all sources, something that even the Samsung flagships have not been able to achieve yet. For a mid-range smartphone, the 10L is our top pick against any older gen iPhones, or even the present gen iPhone SE 2020.
Samsung Note 20 Ultra
As long as you don’t have a problem with huge (read tablet-sized) smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is without a doubt, a formidable smartphone in every sense of the word! Its 6.9” Super AMOLED, QHD+ display is a thing of beauty, complemented by a decent 4500mAh battery and an incredibly powerful Exynos 990 (UK variant) SoC. The front camera leaves a lot to be desired though, and at this price, that is quite unacceptable. Nevertheless, it’s a worthy competitor to the iPhone 11 Pro Max.
OnePlus 8 Pro
Gone are the days when OnePlus was a budget flagship because the 8 Pro is not priced in a budget-friendly manner at all! Nevertheless, as far as Android flagship handsets are considered, it is considered by most to be the best at the premium tier, competing with the likes of the iPhone 11 Pro. The 120hz, 6.78” AMOLED display with a 10-Bit panel is simply amazing and could even be considered as better than the twice as expensive offerings from Samsung. Additionally, it has a decent rear and front camera setup, a 4510mAh battery, as well as the most powerful version of Qualcomm’s SD 865 yet.
It’s true that Apple and its ecosystem has advantages over the Android platform that the latter cannot overcome at this time, but the same is true the other way around as well. Android offers a much more user-friendly, customizable interface with an open-end architecture that is becoming more and more potent with every new iteration. To sum it up, if you decide to go with any of the models on this list, you won’t likely be able to find a reason to regret not buying an iPhone in 2020 at least.
