VideoHunter is a brand-new video downloader launched in 2020. As you may discover, actually, such kind of video downloader is a very common product you can find on the Internet. Personally, I have high demands in downloading online videos, so I have tried many well-known video downloader, such as 4K Video Downloader, Videoder, Freemake, etc. to ensure my own requirements.
I tried VideoHunter last week, and it seemed that this video downloader was just launched earlier this year. But its interface was totally my type – which is quite simple, and is in a dark blue color. So being attracted and after experiencing VideoHunter for nearly one week, I wrote this review to share this newly-released video downloader to all of you.
Well, if I have to score VideoHunter, I would give it a 7 out of 10 from my point of view. In the following, I will share my own experience in details according to what VideoHunter claims on its official product page.
My in-use device: Macbook Air (macOS 15.5)
VideoHunter Version: VideoHunter for Mac V 1.1.1
Subscribed Plan: VideoHunter Single License ($29.95/Lifetime)
Strip Music Files in MP3 with 320kbps Quality?
VideoHunter offers multiple set output formats for people to choose to save their downloaded files, which include MP3. But pay attention that not all videos can be detected the audio soundtrack. For platforms like YouTube and SoundCloud, it offers MP3 320kbps (sometimes YouTube videos can only be detected and offered highest quality in 160kbps). But for other platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, VideoHunter can only detect video and would not offer a MP3 320kbps for saving the audio soundtrack only.
Answer: YES. VideoHunter offers MP3 320kbps option. But not every video can be detected its audio file and offered such option.
6X Faster Acceleration? Batch Download Available?
Well actually I don’t know whether VideoHunter has offered a 6X faster speed because the standard of “original speed” remains unknown. But singly speaking about VideoHunter, the analyzing speed depends on the network condition. If my network is good enough, the analysis speed can be really fast. When it comes to the downloading speed, VideoHunter does do a good job. In most cases, the downloading speed can reach up to 5M/s (on my computer), so it is really appreciated.
As for batch download, yes, VideoHunter does offer batch download feature, so that you can download several tasks at the same time. But as you are analyzing a URL, you could not cancel the analysis until it is done for you. This is a little drawback in my consideration.
Answer: The URL analysis speed depends on your network condition, but the downloading speed is fast. In addition, batch download is available.
Support to Download from over 1,000 Sites?
VideoHunter doesn’t claim which sites it supports currently ( I didn’t find that). But I have tried several popular ones:
- YouTube -Certainly it supports. For VideoHunter Mac version, it even allows us to download the whole YouTube playlist at once. This is really appreciated, which saves much time.
- Twitter – But it can only download videos in MP4, no other options.
- Facebook – Like Twitter.
- Instagram -I don’t know it is the program’s bug or due to my computer settings. I always fail to analyze a Instagram video URL.
- Dailymotion -Yes, it supports. HD quality like 1080p, subtitles, MP3, can all be selected to download.
- SoundCloud – VideoHunter allows to download SoundCloud in MP3 320kbps. This is really great.
- TED – HD 1080p, subtitles, MP3 are all supported to output the videos.
- Pornhub -Yes (well I tested it for curiosity). But it only provides limited output formats and quality for saving the Pornhub videos.
Answer: I just tried the above websites and VideoHunter supports almost all of them, and the output quality is well enough for me.
Is the Built-in Converter Workable?
The built-in converter is only available on Mac now, so fortunately I got the chance to test it. VideoHunter official claims that it supports over 20+ formats for converting the local media files to. And yes, it does offer many mainstream output formats like MP3, MP4, MOV, AVI, etc. In addition, it also allows people to choose an output quality, from standard, original, to high quality like HD and 4K. What’s more, people can also select a mobile preset for converting the media files to the default formats the selected devices can support, for example, you can choose iPhone, iPod, Samsung mobile phones, etc. This is really convenient.
Answer: YES. This built-in converter is workable and can be really helpful for format conversion. But a pity is that this function is only available on VideoHunter Mac now. But VideoHunter official claims that it would add this function to Windows as well.
So that’s all. These are the experience I can come up with after using VideoHunter for a week. I assume that many of you may only have the requirement to download YouTube videos. So from the aspects claimed by VideoHunter official, most of them can really meet the standards, though some still have certain shortcomings. All in all, VideoHunter is good enough to meet most people’s video downloading demands.
