Xiaomi will present MIUI 12 along with Mi 10 Youth Edition in China on April 27, but the company has already started showing some of the news. Yesterday, the brand unveiled “Dark Mode 2.0,” a revamped dark mode throughout the system with major changes. Today, the new improved AOD functionality (Always-on Display) is presented in the official MIUI Weibo account.
Xiaomi has introduced the AOD on its devices with an OLED display via an update to MIUI 10. The function was also added to MIUI 11 at the end of last year. Now the company is taking it to the next level with MIUI 12.
AOD at MIUI 12 will support the MAML format, which means that designers can implement non-linear animations with time and weather. In addition, third-party styles will also offer support for universal system buttons to enable or disable the battery indicator, app shortcuts, and more.
The current version of AOD on Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones is static for third-party styles and does not support time or weather. Instead, these parameters are provided by the system itself. But with the next iteration, as mentioned above, designers can fiddle with almost anything to offer better styles. Xiaomi promises over 1000+ animated AOD styles from third parties when it launches.
Besides, Xiaomi will also release new animated official AOD styles from first-party vendors, where the company’s official mascot, the Mi Bunny, will do different things.
The company will also release AOD styles for cinema (Redmi K30 series mascots), Kings of Glory, PUBG Mobile and more. All of these AOD styles should then be available free of charge in the Mi Store.
In addition, on the same day, the director of the camera department of Xiaomi enaQueena_Xiaomi also released the new camera interface on MIUI 12.
He said that the new interface of the MIUI 12 camera will be further simplified, supporting customization of the operating layout. The first screen supports at least 2 functions and up to a maximum of 10. From the screenshot, the MIUI 12 will only hold “Video”, “Photo” and “More” above the camera button.
This new OS official announcement is scheduled for April 27. And it is expected that all relevant Xiaomi and Redmi devices can upgrade to MIUI 12 (it will run on Android 10).
