Huawei could get a new smartphone design rolling in the future. Huawei patent emerged that shows two rollable, i.e. mobile devices with a pull-out display. Unlike the foldable, no sensitive hinge is required for this, instead, the display is wrapped around a coil inside. If the user needs more display space, he simply pulls this out – as far as possible. Huawei apparently thinks of two approaches (Model A and Model B). These differ in the handling of the extended flexible screen.
Foldables, but there are other options for using flexible displays. TCL already showed a prototype of a so-called rollable, and Huawei is also pursuing such an implementation. The Dutch portal LetsGoDigital came across a recently published patent by the Chinese manufacturer.
As usual, the website created render images based on the concept drawings for better visualization. However, this time the team does not provide full smartphone designs, but only emphasizes the display. Model A is a rollable similar to the TCL mobile device.
A piece of the display can be pulled out of the smartphone and attached to a housing. With model B, this supporting housing part is no longer required. In this case, the user pulls the mere display forward, which only has a thin underside. Such a creation looks more modern and could save weight.
by the saved housing part in model B. In addition, this method appears to have more display space than Model A. But such an approach does not only bring advantages. The flexible display would be less well protected against environmental influences. Reduced shelf life is not excluded.
Both Huawei concepts can be converted from a smartphone into a mini-tablet. Since the display hugs a bit around the back, only one camera element is required for snapshots and selfies. In the concept drawings, the rollable feature a triple camera. The Huawei patent was filed with WIPO.
