Xiaomi is making great strides with regards to compliance with GPLv2 licenses, which oblige all manufacturers to release the kernel source code of their models within a given period. After a few slow problems and release, Lei Jun’s company began to adapt, becoming faster and faster in the release (in some cases even a short time after Day 1 of a device). Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 8 Pro are added to this round, thus giving way to modding by external developers.
As usual, remember that publishing the kernel source code is an important step for the devices in question. It is, in fact, an essential prerogative to kick off modding and therefore the creation of Custom ROMs, alternative kernels, Mods, customizations, TWRP recovery and much more.
So in this way, Redmi Note 9 Pro (also Max) and Redmi Note 8 Pro can finally end up in the spotlight also for the “more advanced” Android world. To conclude, we point out that both releases are based on Android 10; in the case of the Note 8 Pro previously the source code had already been released, but obviously on a Pie basis.
