We’re still many months away from the launch of iPhone 12, but there are already many rumours about the 2020 iPhone. Apple will probably unveil iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max in September 2020. These iPhones will reportedly be Apple’s first to support 5G. Other reports predict that design will kill the notch and in-display Touch ID functionality. Although the design may change in 2020, there are still plenty of leaks around there. Read on to know what the rumour mill is saying about the 2020 iPhone.
Latest Rumours About iPhone 12
- Analyst Ming Chi-Kuo claims a larger motherboard in iPhone 12. A new motherboard will help in dissipating the heat generated by the 5G connectivity. With 5G, you can access the new mobile phone .
- According to a recent report, all the three variants of the 2020 iPhone will have 5G networking and Apple will introduce a new 5-nanometer processor.
- Sony’s upcoming camera sensor called the IMX686 could feature in the iPhone 12.
Design
The notch could be on its way out for the iPhone 12. The 2020 iPhones will feature an overhauled design that’s similar to the frame of the iPhone 4. Analyst Kuo says that Apple wants to move away from the notch and the new iPhones will use a more complex segmentation design. The new iPhone will feature a square-edge stainless steel frame between two pieces of glass and it will continue to use front and back glass for the body of the device. Injection moulding of the metal in the frame will help in reducing the negative impact of metal shielding on the high-frequency transmission efficiency of the internal antenna. Apple will most likely use tempered glass or sapphire to protect the grooves in the frame.
Display
All three variants of the iPhone 12 may come equipped with OLED displays in 2020. The use of OLED displays will promote more flexible design across the iPhone line-up. 2020 iPhones could also adopt the low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO technology). LTPO has an oxide TFT structure that uses up to 15% less power than the technology that Apple currently uses. Rumours from Ice Universe suggests that 2020 iPhones could feature a switchable 60/120Hz refresh rate. Apple already uses ProMotion technology in the iPad Pro, so it’s possible that the technology could be used in the iPhone too.
Cameras
iPhone 12 could feature triple-lens rear cameras. It is also possible that Apple could add a time-of-flight sensor to its 2020 iPhones. The sensor judges distance more accurately and helps in creating bokeh effects on portrait shots. Apple is also working on a periscope-like telephone lens that could provide a longer zoom than Apple’s previous iPhones. Sony’s upcoming IMX686 sensor could be featured in iPhone 12. The sensor is used to capture 64 mega-pixels shots. It also optimizes 16-megapixels shots with improved light sensitivity by using Quad Bayer pixel-binning. The image sensors used in all the iPhone 11 models are manufactured by Sony and are rated at 12 mega-pixels.
