Motorola brought us a foldable smartphone a few days ago, which is completely different from the competition. Many people like their idea of a flexible smartphone more than a competing Galaxy Fold or Mate X and Huawei has decided to start working on something like that.
The new Motorola Razr doesn’t bend like a book, but its design resembles classic tipping mobiles. It is currently the only one of its kind in the market, but that could change soon. Samsung has confirmed to us in the past that the second generation of Galaxy Fold will be folded vertically and the new patent suggests that Huawei is also considering a similar solution.
The patent highlighted by Techieword describes a smartphone with an extended display and extremely thin frames. The bending mechanism is located in the vertical center of the device so it will tilt like the Razr.
Interestingly, there is no cut-out for the front camera in the drawings, suggesting that Huawei could use the technology of the camera located below the screen. The back reminds us of the flagship P-series from this manufacturer. There are three cameras placed vertically in the upper left corner together with an LED flash.
We only see one display on the device. Motorola Razr offers two – one main with the possibility of bending and the second secondary, which is used in the closed state.
In conclusion, we must say that this patent does not prove that Huawei really plans to bring us a similar device. As is the case with patents, they sometimes only act as a guarantee for a company they never use. But at least this suggests that Huawei is playing with the idea of a folding smartphone with a slightly different design.
