The CEO of Xiaomi Lei Jun made some very interesting statements during the China Mobile Global Partners event, focusing on the diffusion of the 5G standard and on the arrival of this novelty also for the mid-range devices under Xiaomi.
2020 will be the year of 5G and Chinese manufacturers are more aggressive than ever, ready to bring the new standard onboard mid-range devices, as well as on expensive top of the range. Like colleagues, Xiaomi – through CEO Lei Jun – confirmed that starting next year, all models in the price range above 2000 yuan (about $285) will be equipped with 5G support.
Lei Jun also pointed to China Mobile to accelerate efforts to expand eSIM technology across China. Apparently, Xiaomi will mark the smartphone market next year. Smartphones currently supporting 5G technology have a $400 price tag.
In addition, the manager revealed that at least ten 5G smartphones are planned for the company in the course of 2020. The package of new models should also include those with the Redmi brand. According to the words of Lei Jun, the first 5G mid-ranges will see the light already in the first half of the new year, with a double advantage. The Chinese company, in fact, intends to focus on a 5G + AIoT strategy, in order to increase the development and adoption of these services.
