While the iPhone 11 season is in full swing, the rumor mill is increasingly dedicated to the 2020 iPhone. In addition to a significant design change and a 5G connectivity, we could also have a ProMotion display with a high refresh rate in the house, claim at least sources from the supply chain.
As DigiTimes reports, the rumors are growing regarding the use of ProMotion technology on the 2020 iPhone. The display technology is already used in the iPad Pro and provides here for image refresh rates of up to 120Hz. This allows for smooth scrolling, greater responsiveness, and smoother motion. The ProMotion also improves display quality and reduces power consumption by automatically adjusting the refresh rate of the display to match the movement of the content.
As the unspecified sources confirm, Apple will use this technology for at least one new iPhone next year. According to DigiTimes, the next generation of the iPhone will update the screen at 90Hz to 120Hz. Current iPhones rely on 60Hz displays. The Pixel 4 offers for comparison a 90Hz display, which drastically affects the battery life at Google.
Already in July, there were the first rumors that Apple is in negotiations with Samsung and LG to implement a 120Hz technology for the iPhone. The final hardware decisions for the 2020 iPhone are likely to be slow, which is why the message from the supply chain is not far-fetched.
