On Wednesday (23), during the event, Samsung took the opportunity to announce the Exynos 990 processor and Exynos Modem 5123 5G modem. Both the Exynos 990 mobile processor and the Exynos 5123 5G modem are built using advanced ultraviolet (EUV) 7 nanometer (nm) process technology.
“Milestones in technological advances are imminent around us. 5G mobile technology is breaking new ground for communication and connection, while AI is poised to become an everyday tool for people around the world, ”noted Inyup Kang, president of Samsung’s LSI Business System.
“The Exynos 990 and Modem 5123 are tailored for 5G applications and artificial intelligence and are designed to help the world’s most ambitious companies, large and small, achieve their goals of bringing new capabilities to their markets.”
The Exynos 990 is equipped with the ARM Mali-G77 GPU graphics card and, along with it, eight cores (two customized by Samsung, two Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55). It is also worth remembering that the processor also has two cores of the neural processing unit (dual-NPU) for facial recognition and other activities performed by artificial intelligence.
This chip is compatible with 120hz instead of traditional 60 displays, offering smoother animations, and the Exynos 990 will allow Samsung smartphones to offer rear cameras with a maximum resolution of 108MP. In turn, the Exynos Modem 5123 5G aims to be cheaper, useless battery, and has a peak speed of up to 8.36 gigabits per second.
During the event, the company confirmed that both the Exynos Modem 5123 for 5G and the Exynos 990 chip will go into mass production by the end of this year. The processor is expected to surface with the Galaxy S11, which is due out next year.
