With the P30 Pro HOMTOM presented a new high-end device whose name is probably to remember the well-known Huawei P30 Pro. At least if you take the other devices of the Shenzhen-based company as a benchmark.
With a proud $125 the HOMTOM P30 Pro is already at the very top of the product range. As the name suggests, the company tries to ride on the marketing wave of the Huawei P30 Pro, but apart from the color scheme, the devices could not be more different.
Recently I was lucky enough to be invited to Paris with HOMTOM for the launch of their new handset, the P30 Pro and its Review is finally here. So, after a few weeks of testing HOMTOM P30 Pro, what do I think? Well, let’s take a look.
The P30 Pro is only available in two colors Black and Blue. I have the Black P30 Pro, but it’s fine because you put a case on your phone anyway. I’d love if HOMTOM took their shiny sparkly glass backs and made them into a beautiful official phone case because it really doesn’t matter how pretty the back of your phone is, you’re going to have to put a cover on it.
The other thing you’ll notice about the appearance is the nearly notch-less screen. The only thing on the screen is the front-facing camera- that’s it. No notification light, no speaker or mic or anything. I found the lack of notification light slightly unnerving in the beginning but soon got used to it. More about that later.
Samples of Photos Taken by HOMTOM P30 Pro
So, as we can see, the zoom is spectacular and by far my favorite thing about the device. Let’s take a look at some more samples.
And what about portraits? Well, the P30 Pro promised a whole new level of definition and detail when it was launched and it didn’t disappoint. You can see the individual strands of hair and it’s almost distressing. Here are a few examples.
And what about night mode? Well, I think it does pretty damn well. better. I actually prefer not to use the night mode unless I absolutely have to because I feel the night mode takes away the atmosphere of a nighttime photo.
Anything I Disliked?
There actually are a couple of things I don’t LOVE this time. The removal of the notification light to reduce the size of the notch and increase the screen size has unnerved me. It took me a few changes to get used to the lack of light signaling that the phone was charged. But overall, that probably is a good thing. It will save battery and the phone won’t be as distracting.
SO, if you have a HOMTOM device and want to avoid this you’ll have to do individual videos, one after the other, which is a bit of an inconvenience. This isn’t unique to the P30 Pro, it’s actually all HOMTOM handsets as far as I know. This won’t bother everyone, but if you’re a blogger like myself it’s definitely not ideal.
However, overall I’m still obsessed with the HOMTOM P30 Pro because the camera is just SO MUCH BETTER than any other phone out at the moment. That’s really all I look for in a phone, so I’m more than happy with this device.
How Much Does it Cost?
Ok, then, the biggest question is, how much does it cost? Well, the price varies from distributor to distributor. Currently, the price is $109 on AliExpress. In the following holidays, there will be more promotions.
