Nearly four years after the release of Chromebook 3, Samsung finally released its follow-up products. The new 11.6-inch Chromebook 4 is available now, starting at $229.99, and a larger 15.6-inch Chromebook 4 Plus starting at $299.99.
Since the launch of Chromebook 3, there have been many changes in the Chrome OS market, and Chromebook 4 reflects some of the changes, starting with a more modern high-end design similar to the Asus Chromebook Flip C302, both products use Intel The Celeron N4000 processor is charged via USB-C: the 11.6-inch model has a single USB-C port, while the 15.6-inch model has two, one on each side, and both have a USB Type-A port and headphone/microphone input. The jacks are supplied with a 30W USB-C power adapter in the box.
Samsung pointed out that the USB-C port is not only used to power laptops, but also to transfer data at speeds up to 5Gb / s, or to 4K displays. Another welcome improvement is support for Android apps.
Samsung will offer a variety of configurations, different RAM (4GB or 6GB LPDDR4) and onboard storage (32GB or 64GB eMMC); all configurations have a microSD card slot. The 11.6-inch Chromebook 4 has the same LED screen resolution as the previous version of the 1366 x 768, and the 15.6-inch Chromebook 4 Plus LED screen provides 1080p resolution.
Samsung estimates that the smaller Chromebook 4 can provide 12.5 hours of battery life, while the 15.6-inch model can last for 10.5 hours per charge, both devices use the same 39Wh battery. The Samsung Chromebook 4 and 4 Plus are available now.
