According to Samsung’s official news, Samsung Electronics today introduced two new 0.8 microns (μm) pixel image sensors, one is 64 million pixel Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1, the other is 48 Megapixels ISOCELL Bright GM2. In addition, Samsung has updated its 0.8μm image sensor lineup.
“In the past few years, mobile cameras have become the primary tool for recording and sharing our daily lives,” said Yongin Park, executive vice president of Samsung’s sensor business. “With more pixels and advanced pixel technology, the Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 and GM2 will bring a new level of photography to today’s most fashionable mobile devices.”
The ISOCELL Bright GW1 is a 64Mp image sensor that is the highest resolution in the lineup of Samsung’s 0.8μm pixel image sensor. Through pixel-combined Tetracell technology and re-picking algorithm, GW1 can generate bright 16Mp images in low light environments and 64Mp images in brighter environments. The GW1 is equipped with dual conversion gain (DCG). The high-performance phase-detection autofocus technology Super PD provides clearer images and supports full HD recording at 480 frames per second (fps).
The ISOCELL Bright GM2 is a 48Mp image sensor that uses Tetracell technology in low-light environments to re-sampling algorithms in a well-lit environment, bringing high-definition images with natural, vibrant colors.

Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 and GM2 are expected to begin mass production in the second half of this year. The Samsung Note 10 flagship is expected to be equipped with the top GW1 64-megapixel sensor.
