Qualcomm recently unveiled three new mid-range chips couple of weeks back, and Xiaomi has confirmed to be using one of them in their next smartphone series in the country.
Their next being the upcoming generation A series smartphone, the teased handset is being expected to be Mi A3. The upcoming Xiaomi phone will come with the latest Snapdragon 700-series processor announced two weeks ago.
The teased smartphone being a Xiaomi series device and not Redmi, we can safely assume that it’s the next Mi A smartphone under Miseries of Xiaomi, Mi A3. Qualcomm announced three new Snapdragon chips: Snapdragon 665, Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G. The tweet says that the upcoming Xiaomi phone in India will run on the latest Snapdragon 7series.
The company hasn’t confirmed which one it will use, but it’s definitely either Snapdragon 730 or Snapdragon 730G. The Xiaomi India didn’t reveal any further detail about the upcoming Xiaomi device, but the previous leaks about Mi A3 hint at being a Xiaomi Mi 9X rip off based on Android One taking out the MIUI 10, with features in line with the current bestseller, Redmi Note 7 Pro. The upcoming Xiaomi phone in India will run on the latest Snapdragon 700-series SoC backed by latest features.
With the new Snapdragon 700-series chip taking the charge, the upcoming Xiaomi phone in India will come with the latest of features and specs. The smartphone is going to be highly inspired by Redmi Note 7 Pro in India, the current Xiaomi best seller in the country.
Starting with the design, the smartphone will come with a glass sandwich body, an upgrade over the current metal build on Mi A2. Xiaomi Mi A3 will have a dot notch Full HD+ display on top with a 19.5:9 screen aspect ratio. There have been leaks about an in-display fingerprint sensor as well, but we need to wait for it.
Coming to optics, the company will be adding the current best Sony IMX 586 48MP sensor. It’s expected to be a dual rear camera system, but some leaks hint at a three rear camera setup. The new addition could be a wide angle lens apart from the main and depth sensor. Said to be a Xiaomi Mi 9X rip off, the rear three-camera setup and in-display fingerprint sensor seem obvious.
Mi A3 is an Android One device, will run on the latest Android 9 Pie. Stock Android being its top USP, Mi A3 will come with guaranteed version upgrades till Android Q and R. The battery may see an upgrade as well with the support for fast charging. My A2 came with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology support.
The rumored Mi A3 was being speculated to launch in India next month. Now with Xiaomi India confirming a new device running on the latest Snapdragon 700-series chip, the launch is expected to happen really soon. Mi A3 India launch is expected to happen in May, either in the middle of the last week. The company just unveiled two new handsets under Redmi two days back: Redmi Y3 and Redmi 7.
Finally, coming to the Mi A3 India price, the existence of exclusive features as the new chip, in-display fingerprint sensor, three rear cameras will push the price. Mi A3 is expected to be priced around 17,000 rupees in India. The company previously took a wrong decision with the Mi A2 pricing, and later was forced to bring down the prices due to cut-throat competition.

While it’s first Mi A device, Mi A1 did really well in the India market beating the likes of some bestsellers as Honor 7X and Moto G5S Plus back in 2017 and early 2018. Hopefully, Xiaomi will find a sweet spot in the range with Mi A3, as it recently did with Redmi Note 7 Pro in India. If priced rightly, the company will have another winner in the budget flagship category.
