A new Xiaomi design patent has been spotted by the Dutch website LetGoDigital and has drawn attention not to innovation but to the fact that it is comical. The leaked document shows a smartphone with an inverted notch – which by itself is very questionable – and a set of cameras with a speaker that resembles a face or emoji representing despair.
The patent gets to be funny if we compare it to the notch formats we have today. Despite this, it is important to recognize the Chinese effort to eliminate the clipping within the displays we have on cell phones today.
It is important to emphasize that this design is only a patent, which may or may not be achieved in a final product. In addition, if Xiaomi really resolves to put a bulge in their smartphones to eliminate the notch, the brand would hardly leave this strange element so obvious.
According to LetGoDigital, the patent was registered a few days ago. The same document still shows two more inverted notch formats. Everyone is bizarre, but the ones you see next are not as comical as the first.
Since the Essential Phone and later the iPhone X, virtually every cell phone manufacturer in the world has launched gadgets with some kind of notch at the top of the screen to house sensors and front camera. The goal was to reduce the edges, but due to sympathetic neglect, the phones of 2018 and 2017 ended up getting uglier overall.
Now, with several brands looking to find solutions, such as the drop-shaped notch or even reduced to a hole in the display, things have improved again. Will the inverted notch of Xiaomi also catch? Leave your opinion in the comments section.
