Xiaomi is expected to launch its second-generation Android One smartphones later this year. According to a new report from XDA-developers, the two upcoming Android One smartphones from the popular Chinese brand will include a game-changing feature.
XDA Junior Member franztesca has discovered that Xiaomi has started testing three new devices codenamed “pyxis”, “bamboo_sprout”, and “cosmos_sprout”. Going by the _sprout suffix in their codenames, it is being speculated that “bamboo_sprout” and “cosmos_sprout” could be Android One devices. On the other hand, “pyxis” will likely be the Chinese variant of the Mi A3 and a direct successor to the Mi 6X.
All the three smartphones are said to be undergoing testing with “fod” or fingerprint on display. Since all the three models are expected to be relatively affordable, they will probably use an optical in-display fingerprint sensor like most Android smartphones equipped with the technology. Even though smartphones with in-display fingerprint scanners are starting to become more common in the high-end segment, there are still very few smartphones offering the technology in the budget segment.

Apart from an in-display fingerprint sensor, the trio is tipped to feature a 32MP selfie camera with 4-in-1 pixel binning support. The Xiaomi Mi A3 is expected to ship with a Snapdragon 675 chipset under the hood, while the Mi A2 Lite might feature a Snapdragon 632 or Snapdragon 636 instead. Xiaomi had launched the Mi 6X in China in April last year, so there is a good chance that “pyxis” may be officially unveiled very soon.
