The beginning series of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 almost occupied the flagship other than Huawei, and its mid-end product Snapdragon 710 did not fully open the situation. Mobile phone manufacturers consider the cost price and performance of 710 comprehensively. Most mid-range products choose to use 6 high-end processors such as 670 and 636. In this context, Qualcomm will either improve the performance of the 710, making it the first choice for those quasi-flagship products, or low-cost, let those 1500 yuan [$222.39]-class mobile phones use this core. Considering Qualcomm’s choice of the former solution, Qualcomm released the Snapdragon 712 mobile processor platform yesterday. From the specification point of view, it is like a small upgraded version of the Snapdragon 710.
Specifically, the Snapdragon 712 chip uses the eight-core layout of the Kryo 360 core, the Adreno 616 GPU and the Hexagon 685 DSP. The frequency is slightly increased to 2.3 GHz, compared to 2.2 GHz for the previous generation. However, according to Qualcomm, the new chip can improve performance by 10% (on a 710 basis). Of course, the frequency increase of only 0.1 GHz is obviously impossible, and the process technology is optimized to make the processor have lower power consumption and heat generation, thereby increasing the operating frequency under high load.
Most of the remaining parameters are the same, using the Snapdragon X15, which supports the LTE Cat.15 downlink and the Cat.13 uplink with peak speeds of 800 Mbps and 150 Mbps, respectively. The chip also supports dual-lens or 32 million pixel single-lens with up to 20 Megapixels and the same Spectra 250 ISP. At present, mobile phones equipped with two, three or even more cameras are emerging one after another. The functions of a depth of field, black and white, etc. can already be completed based on software algorithms. Due to factors such as cost, aesthetics of the phone, internal hardware layout, etc., the number of cameras will not increase. Therefore, Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 supports 20 Megapixel dual lens or 32 Megapixel single lens is enough to meet the mid-end flagship mobile phone. In addition, in terms of fast charging, the 712 support aspect is upgraded to QC4+, which allows the smartphone to charge from 0% to 50% in about 15 minutes

In general, the Snapdragon 712 is aimed at Android’s flagship (1500-2500 yuan) ($222.39-$370.65 mobile phones, and it is also targeted, and the operating frequency and power consumption are increased under high load such as games. Last year, users’ demand for large-scale mobile games and high-frequency application scene switching led to a substantial increase in the high-performance segment represented by game phones in 2018. Qualcomm seems to be in the mid-range product positioning to meet the needs of mobile processors in the game, but also optimistic about the development of the 2019 gaming esports mobile phone segment. At present, Qualcomm has not revealed which products the Snapdragon 712 will be used on. It is believed that mobile phones such as Xiaomi Mi 9 SE, OPPO R19, and vivo X25 will be its target.
