Innovative minimalists Meizu Zero and Vivo Apex 2019 forced the world community to talk about themselves. Both smartphones do not have ports, openings, speakers and mechanical keys. Despite the fact that Apex 2019 is still just a concept, we can soon see on the shelves of online and offline stores its exact copy, but under a different name. What is the difference between these competitors in terms of characteristics and appearance Let’s get a look.
Design
Appearance Vivo Apex 2019 is certainly an icon of style, all-glass case, without any transitions to the metal frame – rather non-standard approach. Plus, the smartphone display has a narrower frame and there is no front camera sensor above it (where it will be placed in the version being sold is not yet clear). The main cameras on the rear panel are divided into two modules and do not protrude beyond the body, and the LED flash is barely visible against the background of the glossy body.
At the same time, the Meizu Zero camera sensors are united in one protruding module, and the Meizu Zero ring flash is a full-fledged element of the rear panel, visible from far away. But if we talk about the build quality, then perhaps Meizu Zero bypasses the competitor in this parameter. Vivo didn’t mention during the presentation that their smartphone is waterproof, but we know that Meizu Zero is IP68 certified, as well as a ceramic back panel.
Display
There is still little information about the displays installed on smartphones, it’s just known that it’s AMOLED panels, equipped with a built-in fingerprint scanner and a piezoelectric transducer that replaces the stereo speakers in smartphones. The differences that are noticeable to the eye are narrower front panels and a full-screen fingerprint scanner on the Vivo Apex 2019, while in Meizu Zero there are thicker frames in the upper and lower parts of the display and the scanner, although located below the display, it only works in one area.
Hardware
Vivo Apex 2019 is more advanced in this regard. The latest Snapdragon processor, the 855, will undoubtedly provide faster interaction with different types of load and more productive. In addition, there are as many as 12GB of RAM. Since Meizu Zero intends to launch the smartphone first on the market, it has a more mundane Snapdragon 845 (released last year), but the price tag will most likely be more accessible because of this.
Cameras
Details about the cameras of smartphones, during the presentation, were announced very modestly and knowing only their resolution, it was very difficult to draw any conclusions. Plus, the lack of a front-facing camera in the Vivo Apex 2019 introduces even more confusion – it is difficult to say where it will be placed in the product being sold, so we are waiting for more detailed information to compare in a fair duel.
Battery
Again, a big mystery, both in Vivo and in Meizu, did not reveal the capacity of the batteries, but a completely different parameter is important here. The lack of ports forced manufacturers to go out of the current situation in different ways. Meizu Zero supports fast wireless charging Qi (18 W). This is definitely a simpler solution, but the Vivo Apex 2019 has a “MagPort” magnetic connector on the back panel that will cope with the task clearly faster, and it can also be used for data transfer.
Currently, Meizu and Vivo showcase the prototypes of these two concept products, and the Vivo APEX 2019 will evolve into a production version of NEX in the future, and some features may be compromised. Meizu Zero has already started crowdfunding and will be mass-marketed in the future. As for the issue of eSIM, it depends on the progress of the card issuance by domestic operators. Which of these two non-porous phones are more optimistic about?
