As promised, yesterday Xiaomi has officially entered in the UK market. The Chinese manufacturer takes the opportunity to officially launch the Mi 8 Pro in its international version – the device had already been released in China in last September 19.
The new flagship model in Europe I 8 series is equipped with a display AMOLED by 6.21 inches with resolution diagonal Full HD + (1080 x 2248 pixels) and aspect ratio of 18.7: 9 with a notch of considerable size in the upper part. Inside the Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro notch, there is a 20MP front camera with f / 1.8 aperture, 1.8-micron pixel, HDR and 3D Beauty function and the face recognition system, which works without problems even in the dark or in low light conditions thanks to infrared lighting.
The unlocking system with the face is taken up by Mi 8, not from the Explorer Edition that has instead of the 3D Face Unlock. As said, Mi 8 Pro has a fingerprint sensor is integrated below the display, presumably the same as the Explorer Edition. It is a pressure sensitive fingerprint reader which, instead of wasting energy while remaining active waiting for a fingerprint to be recognized, is activated only when a pressure is made by placing a finger on the device screen.
Design and technical specifications
Excluding the striking transparent back of the Transparent Titanium version, the Mi 8 Pro is a classic but at the same time particularly elegant metal and glass sandwich. Xiaomi has in fact chosen to use for the first time a back cover with gradient, with a color called Sunset Gold that changes from red/purple to yellow / orange depending on the inclination.
Being a high-end smartphone, under the hood could not miss a powerful engine: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, with octa-core CPU and Adreno 630 GPU is accompanied by 6 or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory, for uncompromising performance.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is a very complete smartphone also in terms of connectivity thanks to Dual 4G / VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac dual band, Bluetooth 5.0, dual-band GPS, GLONASS, NFC, USB Type-C and dual SIM with two slots for nano-SIM. The battery, with its 3000mAh, is smaller than that of Mi 8, but it should still be enough to cover the day and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ fast charging technology.
Photographic section and software
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro, like the models with which it is closely related, is equipped with a photographic compartment of excellent quality. Said of the front camera, the rear one has a 12MP main sensor with f / 1.8 aperture, four-axis optical stabilization and phase detection autofocus, with secondary 12MP tele sensor, f / 2.4 aperture, all supported by the ‘artificial intelligence.
The goodness of the photographic section of Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro has also been confirmed by DxOMark, which has awarded him 105 points, more than the newest Mi MIX 3 and behind the only Huawei P20 Pro (and presumably Mate 20 Pro).
The new flagship of Xiaomi arrives on the European markets with onboard Android 8.1 Oreo and the proprietary interface MIUI 10 in Global version.
Availability and prices
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is available exclusively at the Wind and Tre stores, combined with the offers offered by the two operators and in the Titanium Transparent color only, with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage at a price of € 649.90 (about $737).
