Since the introduction of the comprehensive screen Smartphone concept of Xiaomi Mi MIX, the industry of mobile phone has undergone tremendous changes, and major manufacturers are scrambling to release their own comprehensive screen Smartphones. Up to now, the comprehensive screen phones on the market have been varied, not only with the Notch, water-drop screens and even sliding screen handsets with screen ratios close to 100%. But is full-screen design really the future of smartphones? Perhaps Samsung‘s painstaking research on folding screen phones for many years can give you the answer.
Previously, DJ Koh, CEO of the Samsung Mobile Division, told the media during the IFA2018 exhibition in Germany that Samsung’s foldable screen phone will be debuted at the San Francisco Developers Conference in November. According to research data collected by Samsung, the market has considerable demand for such a form of the product. As Samsung’s folding Smartphone has been exposed multiple times, consumers’ expectations for folding mobile phones have intensified.
Recently, Li Huaibin, a microblogging analyst for HIS analysts, revealed that Samsung Folding Mobile is expected to be officially released at the CES show early in 2019. The first shipments are expected to be around 500,000 units, This is basically because the device will be freaking expensive.
According to him, the folding screen phone does have the potential to subvert the full-screen mobile phone, because it is absolutely second to none in terms of innovation. However, in the early days of the introduction of folding screen mobile phones, high cost and high price may become the reasons for restricting consumers’ purchases, so Li Huaibin’s judgment is still very reasonable.
According to the current news, the first batch of folding screen phones introduced is Galaxy F. Gao Dongzhen said that the Galaxy F is both a mobile phone and a tablet. Samsung foldable phone will be equipped with a 4.6-inch external screen and a 7.3-inch foldable internal screen. He also stressed that the Galaxy F is not a gimmick. It’s a tablet with powerful multitasking capabilities and can be folded into the most portable phone on the market. With the maturity of Samsung’s technology or the fact that tablets will be completely replaced by smartphones, the global shipments of tablets have become less.
Coincidentally, Chinese Smartphone giant Huawei has also recently revealed that there will be big moves in the field of foldable mobile phones. Yu Chengdong said in an interview, after the Mate 20 series new product launch conference that it is also actively developing a foldable mobile phone with 5G network support, but it is expected to be released in the middle of 2019.
In fact, Huawei submitted a patent for a folding mobile phone to the World Intellectual Property Organization as early as September 2017. According to the patent reality, Huawei’s folding mobile phone is more like a foldable full screen, because it can be opened and closed like a book, which mainly relies on a flexible OLED screen.
It is said that Huawei’s folding mobile phone project is directly led by CTO of the research center and supports 5G network, and Huawei’s completion degree, especially UX, is even higher than Samsung.
In addition to Samsung and Huawei, it is reported that Samsung’s display department has provided OPPO and Xiaomi with samples of foldable screens, while OPPO and Xiaomi are preparing to release foldable phones. Samsung may want to attract more mobile phone manufacturers to join the folding screen mobile phone camp, so that folding screen products can form an ecological, so Samsung can dilute the development and production costs of folding screens.
