At the presentation of Huawei that has just ended in London, the Chinese company has not only presented the new and highly anticipated Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, but also a new and unexpected smartwatch, called Huawei Watch GT. This wearable device is not based on Wear OS, and this is basically good: Huawei’s proprietary operating system, Lite OS, focuses on battery life and guarantees up to two weeks of typical battery life.
The Huawei Watch GT comes unexpectedly with its own operating system, but also with premium features and features designed to monitor physical activities. The official specification of the watch has come to light in advance, but it is in place to repeat it and to supplement it.
The content view covers a 1.39-inch diagonal OLED display and an ultra- fine 454 x 454-pixel resolution. The display, along with the other components, is fitted in a stainless steel housing that completes a solidly mounted numerical lunette made of ceramics. The water tightness of the watch is declared by the 5ATM standard.
Mechanical interaction with the watch is provided by two side physical buttons. The watch does not move the Snapdragon Wear 3100 as it might seem. The creators came up with their own chip with an artificial intelligence to playfully play with all the features.
For example, GPS positioning (including Galileo or Glonass), height and pressure measurement, sleep quality monitoring, NFC payments, or continuous heart rate sensing. Missing WiFi connection, but Bluetooth is present. The Huawei Watch GT weighs together with a 420 mAh battery of 46 grams. Watch straps are naturally replaceable.
Rather than battery capacity, the stamina itself is more important. The 30-day stay in the category of intelligent watches just can not see. However, this long-lasting condition makes the active, simplified mode of use conditional.
In normal operation, the watch lasts for 14 days, at maximum load with continuous GPS monitoring for about 22 hours. Artificial Intelligence contributes to the management of energy consumption. Also interesting is the manufacturer’s own operating system – LiteOS. No Wear OS is on board. According to the first preview, the system is tastefully crafted on a graphical basis. Functionality examines the practice.
Even though it’s not going to be pink with apps ecosystems like Wear OS or Apple Watch, Huawei has covered its own fitness capabilities, face-ups, navigation, and other features you’d expect from such watches.
The announced price of the watch was set at 199 euros (about $230) for the classic leather strap version and 249 euros (equal to $287) for the version labeled Sport (silicone strap). This year’s Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch are more expensive. The Huawei Watch GT is closer to the Fitbit Versa or more affordable Garmin.
