On August 22, 2017, Google officially released Android Oreo, and from December 5, Xiaomi’s two flagships Mi 6, Mi MIX 2 began to test the MIUI based on “Android Oreo”, and recently Mi MIX 2 has started grayscale release stable version of Android Oreo.
At the same time, the global version of Xiaomi Mi A1, Mi 5 and Mi Note 2 are also testing Android 8.0. A few days ago, Xiaomi officially began recruiting Mi 5 Android 8.0 internal test, which is also the 3rd device in Xiaomi that has the honor to get Oreo.
Today, Xiaomi Mi 5s got the Android 8.0 beta update. According to the official introduction, the difficulty of upgrading the Android 8.0 by Mi 5s lies in the adaptation of the ultrasonic fingerprint technology, which involves more underlying code changes.
In contrast to Android 7.1, Android 8.0 focuses on battery life, speed and security, giving users greater control over a variety of applications.
The Android 8.0 system has increased the restrictions on the operation of the App in the background. This limitation extends the battery life of the Android phone in sleep mode to a certain extent, so that the App that is not in use enters a sleep state, and then wakes up when used.
The goal is to reduce the power consumption of the background application without uninstalling the program or changing the user’s usage, and this limitation on the background application will speed up the operation of the mobile phone.
In addition, MIUI officially introduced the technical difficulties of the Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus dual camera module and found a feasible solution. The Xiaomi R&D team cooperated with the Qualcomm dual camera module team. The MIUI internal test version based on Android 8.0 has been released to Mi 5s Plus. It will speed up the progress and strive to complete the adaptation work as soon as possible.
According to previous news, Xiaomi Forum clarified that Xiaomi Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus are Mi self-developing models, not ODM and will not allow other manufacturers to adapt.
