Apple released three models in 2017 (iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X), which is Apple’s first mobile phone with wireless charging. When it was first published, it can only charge the phone with the 5W output. With the update of iOS 11.2, Apple increased the wireless charging power from the original 5W to 7.5W, which slightly improved the problem of slow charging. Although it was upgraded to 7.5W, it could not maintain 7.5W of power for most of the time. Charging. (As shown in the figure above, only charge 5W when the battery is low).
The problem of slow wireless charging has improved on the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max released in 2018! From the introduction of Apple’s official website for mobile phone features, although there is no specific mention of hardware updates, in the wireless charging section, there are instructions to charge faster than iPhone X!
According to the famous maintenance organization iFixit, after disassembling the mobile phone for the first time, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max both use the L-shaped lithium battery. The iPhone XS battery capacity has dropped from the original iPhone X’s 2716mAh to 2659mAh. The iPhone XS Max battery capacity is Apple’s first mobile phone that breaks through 3000mAh (actual power is 3179mAh). From the X-ray image provided by iFixit, you can see that the wireless charging coil gap on the left iPhone X is large, which is the reason why the charging power cannot be maintained at 7.5W (as shown in the figure above)!

The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max coils are changed to 13 ultra-thin coils made of 0.1mm copper wire. The coil gap cannot be clearly seen in the X-ray image. The new materials and processes can reduce the heat generated during the wireless charging process. And speed up the charging. After the actual charging test, I found that the iPhone XS Max with a power of 3179mAh uses wireless charging from 0% to 100% for 3 hours and 10 minutes, while the iPhone XT with only 2716mAh uses wireless charging from 0% to 100% of the time. 30 minutes, the increase is quite obvious!
