Samsung has now officially launched the new Galaxy A7 (2018). It is the first smartphone of the South Koreans with a triple camera on the back. The price is remarkably mild. We list the most important characteristics.
After we had already published quite a few renders of the Galaxy A7 (2018) earlier this week, there were few surprises in terms of design. The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) has a 6-inch FHD AMOLED screen without curved edges. The device has Samsung’s familiar ‘Infinity’ look, without a home button on the front.
Under the hood, the hardware is not that different than the Galaxy A8, which appeared on the market earlier this year. The phone runs on the fairly powerful Exynos 7885 processor, which is supported by 4GB of memory. By default, the Galaxy A7 has an internal storage capacity of 64GB.
Triple Camera
Of course, the triple camera is the most striking feature of the new Galaxy A7 (2018). The main camera has a resolution of 24MP and an f / 1.7 aperture. With very little light, the device can combine four pixels into one pixel, so that you can take good pictures.
The second lens is a 5MP lens that is used to calculate depth. So the device knows what is foreground, and what the background. This makes the same Live Focus photos that you also make with Samsung’s dual camera phones. These are photos with a beautiful bokeh as background.
New in a Samsung phone is the third Ultra Wide lens, which has a field of view of 120 degrees. This sensor has an 8MP resolution and captures much more than the normal lens.
Of course, the Galaxy A7 (2018) also has a fourth camera, on the front. This is also a 24MP sensor if you like to see every small ripple on your selfies. We also encountered the same front camera in the A6 Plus. And on the Galaxy A7 (2018), it is accompanied by a LED flash, so that your selfies always have enough light.
Fingerprint sensor in the side
Furthermore, there is of course still to report that the Galaxy A7 (2018) has a 3300mAh – 10% larger than the A8, which has a very respectable battery life. The Galaxy A7 (2018) supports Dolby Atmos sound, has AR Emoji, and a fingerprint sensor.
It is striking that it is placed in the on / off button on the side, and not on the back. Moreover, the volume keys are now on the same side, so you can operate everything with the same thumb. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack, space for two SIM cards, and it is launched with Android 8.0.
Samsung said the Galaxy A7 (2018) will be available in blue, black, gold and pink and it will be available in Europe and Asia this fall. Prices are not yet announced and are expected to be around $400.
