South Korean company Samsung Electronics officially announced the creation of the first in the industry 5G modem Exynos Modem 5100, which fully complies with the standards of the Rel.15 consortium 3GPP – the latest version of the version for the fifth generation networks.
A new modem, based on an energy-efficient 10-nm process, also supports mobile technologies from previous generations, designed in a single chip.
Exynos Modem 5100 supports both frequency bands – in the 6 GHz sub-band and in the millimeter range, described in the 5G standard from 3GPP, as well as old networks, including 2G GSM / CDMA, 3G WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, HSPA and 4G LTE – all in one chip.
The modem provides a maximum downlink rate of up to 2GB per second (Gbps) in the 6 GHz sub-band of the 5G network and 6GB / s in the millimeter range, which is about 1.7 and 5 times faster than the fourth generation. In addition, this chip provides fast and stable data transmission of 4G networks with a speed in the downlink of 1.6 GB / s.
In addition to the Samsung Exynos Modem 5100, the company also offers an RF chip, envelope tracking solutions and a power management chip that will be available to customers by the end of 2018.
